I just picked this up, and while I really enjoyed it, I found the end of the main story to be a bit of a letdown, because it s clearly continued into another book It was not a natural breakpoint in the story, unless you re a fan of 24.The author creates a character a bit like La Femme Nikita, but seems to have been trying for one like Modesty Blaise This is only partially successful for the simple reason that Valentine has no moral stance She just kills, or uses violence for her own reasons While her targets are often nasty, evil people, it s not clear whether she cares about that.On the other hand, it s a very interesting story, even if some of the visuals are not very believable Her athletic abilities would put most comic book superheroes to shame, dodging bullets in ways that really shouldn t work, and surviving things that are very iffy on the survival scale. On the other hand, I quickly remembered that James Bond is, in fact, an assassin, and look at all of the stuff he can do So, at least Valentine is in the tradition

The story is awesome It pulled me in from the beginning and I read through all three stories in less than a day Seriously worth picking up for the story alone The artwork is also good, but a bit inconsistent.

I m one of those glass half full kind of people This is meant to be a 3.5 but I settled with four because this is a good story once you get past all of the regularly occurring backstabbing The monologuing might be reminiscent of Frank Miller, but this is a Crime Filler and it s supposed to be like that Still the one shot at the end did kind of throw me off with the dramatic change in tone.
