I really loved the first section on how to heal your heart the second and third sections are geared towards the different sexes about how to stop preventing new love in your life they didn t really apply to my current situation I do have issues that require for me to heal my broken heart and I plan on implementing several of his techniques to help me with that The first section is a great read for anyone suffering from a broken heart from death of a loved one, a break up or divorce, etc.

This book was so. therapeutic It understood exactly what I was going through The author himself had to endure through such a tramatic tragedy that you can t help but trust him as he eventually got out of his pit Even though it s a secular book, it had profound truths. and all truths are God s truths The end.

Having found Mars and Venus a help in understanding the psyche of men and women easily and let s face it, we are very different in our practical thinking processes at times, I then found this book whilst seeking to find myself again after a painful marriage breakup.I have to admit to wholeheartedly weeping from the depths of my soul whilst carrying out some of the tasks here in the recovery process, having said that, they proved invaluable in helping me to move on out of the pain and sadness stage I realised too that whilst healing from that relationship ending, that I also found it helped to find closure regarding other severed physical earthly ties, ie my father s passing and that of my 1st husband s too I wished I had had that tool all those years before, I am sure I would have recovered much quickly Although I do feel there are stages of grief which we all go through, this book would have moved me on effortlessly I am sure.I have recommended this book and its exercises to other friends who have been through similar marriage or relationship breakups in the past or loss of parents and children and even pets.I am now a qualified hypnotherapist and although I no longer prescribe the book itself, I do work on similar practices in helping my clients to move on and work through the stages of grief and loss.

A good book to work through issues stemming from a breakup There is much to be said about John Gray s approach to differentiating between the way a man and woman suffer after a breakup There s also quite a bit of exploration of family of origin learned behaviors that can help someone trace why the breakup occurred in the first place and how to rewire faulty thinking that doesn t serve one s search for a healthy relationship. That said, I am not positive that Dr Gray s approach in writing from the male female dichotomy is free of his own attitudes toward both sexes I cannot recall specific passages that suggested to me that he was asserting points from an assumptive point of view based on his own experience with that particular sex He does point out that there are aspects of both the Mars world and Venus world that will be relevant to someone regardless of their own gender So, perhaps in the end my impression that he doesn t have a complete and unbiased picture of either sex is not enough of a reason to not recommend this book.I found this very helpful for me on many levels I was able to see very clearly my own attitudes toward healing and recovering from a painful breakup I realize I probably never healed from breakups that occurred many years ago I also think there are other types of relationships, close bond friendships, that also trigger emotions that require the healing work outlined in this book I see very clearly how the attitudes I faced growing up in a household with a very unhappy mother, justifiably unhappy, resulted in an understandably difficult situation in my adult relationships with women If I had never read the Venus section of the book, I never would have learned exactly why I get so frustrated and defensive when a woman expresses that they are not happy or satisfied This was a breakthrough realization for me.I am not completely healed from my past relationships now that I m done with one read through of this book My past relationships are clouded by a haunting sense of dread in me when faced with the notion of finding love, joy, and happiness in a romantic relationship This dread goes deeper than one or even a few lost relationships. This is an active book, requiring that action be taken I will review many sections in the early part of this book to help me continue to heal There s an excellent section called 101 Ways to Heal our Hearts, which outlines ways to remember and honor the person you loved There are other sections encouraging remembering the good and questions for processing and remembering hot spots from the past These hot spots are experiences that need healing. The idea of focusing on the positive and beautiful, rather than the painful and negative, is a brilliant strategy for letting go of the dysfunction that mires people in unhealthy relationships To me, this book fits in very well with the other works I ve read on enlightenment, healing, and spirituality The book also fits well into the philosophies and concepts brought out in my counseling and 12 step work In fact, I read this book after Mars and Venus on a Date was recommended by my therapist I mentioned that title to a friend, who then suggested this book As I felt in need of healing first, I read this book first I will now go on to read on a Date and others
