This book fills a certain niche that I ve had a hard time finding correct books for Most books on electronic music are far too classical art music oriented to be of service to a DIY synth builder or even a synthesist at all On the other hand, most electronics books, even covering tone generating circuits, are severely lacking in covering certain extremely important synth features i.e V octave standards for voltage control. This book succeeds in covering the correct topic, but unfortunately fails by being too cursory and dumbed down in its technical explanations While it appears to be diverse, thorough, and well organized from its table of contents, it turns out that nearly every chapter repeats almost the same information, and even worse, leaves the same information wanting Basically it reads like the instruction manuals for a few synthesizers bloated out to a higher word count and with a few transition paragraphs added. That said, if you know absolutely nothing about synths, it will tell you the correct names for you to Google, which is than a lot of electronic music books do And it s not like it s giving information that s WRONG, just information that s a bit obvious to anyone who s twiddled the knobs on a synth for 5 minutes.

A book from 1980 that teaches you how to build an analog synth How cool is that I will undoubtedly pick this up when I am retired and try to put it to use.
