It was so amazing the retelling Of Adelaide but on the list of whom was Louis XIV Was not married to Anne Of Austria whom was his mother but infanta marie Thérèse Of Spain but this was magical the research that’s gone in has made a brilliant book its hurts me that Adelaide and her husband Louis died so young and would have been what I would have said a magnificent king and queen of France then Adelaide to see her son after his father and her king of France and what made me cry so much was she was pregnant and in my eyes and mind was murdered Adelaide and Louis were a pair of star crossed lovers never to getting a long life togther hope they do now

The research that went into this is impressive, and I can't fault a writer when they aren't in control of what really happened and the people's actions. I was really looking forward to learning about Marie-she sounded interesting. But I was being unreasonable.
If you are interested in learning about Marie Adelaide, this book is well-written and very informative. However, it's not an easy find. It's old and I had to buy a used, worn copy off Amazon. If you're needing research on Marie Adelaide, this is a good book to turn to.

Marie Adelaide and her husband, Louis, Duc de Bourgogne, are a pair of star-crossed lovers from history about whom remarkably little seems to have been written, at least in English. Perhaps this is a different case in their native France? I'd never heard of them until I read Antonia Fraser's wonderful 'Love and Louis XIV' a couple of years ago, which I couldn't put down. The sections dealing with Marie Adelaide had me riveted and left me heartbroken. What an extraordinary woman she was, very much the Diana of her day. I wanted to know more about her, and so hunted this book down, which Fraser used in writing her own work. Lucy Norton doesn't quite have the same populist historian's touch that Fraser does, but this by no means diminishes what she has written here. It's a moving story. I was constantly aware of the fickle hand of Fate - that 'star-crossed' quality - hovering over the subject's too-short life. Tiny Adelaide, thrust into the glitter of Versailles by an accident of birth, and instantly charming the king. Louis, her husband, immediately loves her, but Adelaide, like an 18th Century Scarlett O'Hara, cannot see the wood for the trees. Her slow journey towards personal maturity and a growing appreciation of Louis's good qualities, which ultimately develops into a deep and true love for him, is beautiful - made all the more so by the heartbreaking ending. Excellent.
