100% Read I am going to try to write well rounded reviews from now on I have not read a lot of science fiction, so my basis for this review is simply on how I was moved If you care about equal or human rights at all, this book touches on it, or if you want a strong, poly amorous, bisexual, musical, female lead, dive in The mark of a good book is real tears falling and loud laughter exploding, I have been through the gamut with Edwards This book is largely character driven and has a great cadence to carry you until the climax is thrust at you from every angle, action to fantasy to romance The sociopolitical nuance is the undercurrent that provides a daisy chain of progression As a far left political activist, I fell hard for Lillian for her acute self awareness and social skills and cant escape being involved in the most elaborate of jokes She is a young princess, with privilege than one can imagine even if in the far far future, yet she is the hero we always love to root for She is a just a natural at getting it But, all of the characters have managed to earn a soft spot with me I don t fully trust Lydia, the main character, nor her girlfriend Their troubles don t exactly come from the weight of the universe, though they do carry conflicting hefty burdens via socioeconomic backgrounds and general approach As different as can be, they complement each other s insecurities well I hope Throughout this trilogy, I expect Lillian and Leo are the ones who hold the power to disappoint me I found Leo to be the good guy, friend zone, sweet heart of a wall flower we all pined for after it was too late Here are a few of my favorite lines in the book, just to give you a feel She gawked at the crater, at the blood and chunks of flesh and bone on her pants, the feeling of warmth as the boy s life stuck to her legs Great first impression, Lydia Solid first night for your reinvention She giggled Fuck it Fuck fuckitty fuck it They could have her removed, but that was counterproductive when it came to the fluffy transparency free speech thing they were going for, and the woman probably knew it as her questions got all the absurd, and provocative Dear Ladies of the Anatali Universe in DSFE, Thank you for collapsing without being weak, for cowering without being cowards, for feeling the rush of power and the burden as well And Leo, My sweet child, you are in for quite a ride This book left me with a hint of your voice but a keen knowledge of how much lurks inside your space station brain I am excited to see you age To you all, Trusting in spite of fear to become fast friends and lovers through this coming of age backroom political adventure, isn t easy or pretty There have been lots of characters linked into your new circle, and I am ready to know what becomes of you all and Alicia, the stoic moon addition I am rooting for each of you, it seems to me that you have much too much life left to live.

This was just a ton of fun to read Lowborn Lydia Stamos has grown up in the welfare system and sings at a bar She wins a scholarship to an offworld Academy and upon traveling there, ends up in all kinds of wildly improbable adventures, though the author pulls it off with excitement and great humor I m thinking this book shouldn t have worked but it did, and I m going to read the sequel.
