Shattered Heart

Shattered Heart There were things that I liked about this book I enjoyed the writing, and the story world building was interesting What I didn t like is that there is never a greater understanding between the characters, and the novel suffered for that Tack on the cheeseball last chapter that almost made me HATE the book, and well could have been better, but not terrible. It wasn t bad, but it was alsoweird Like, in an Anchored sort of way Or whatever The feelings were oddly incongruous, imo, but not as bad as it was in Anchored Sometimes I felt like Corin lol I forgot his name for a moment was a rebel without a cause, that kind of thing. It actually kind of reminded me of Concubine at one point, but not quite because Markus seemed like of a jackass just overall shrugs Not bad, I guess, but not revolutionary it s not really anything I haven t read before and the given circumstances weren t even that interesting because the outside world was so vaguely described. This Edition Is No Longer AvailableThe Ravages Of Biochemical Warfare Have Devastated The Human PopulationBorn Of Rape And Forced To Become A Pleasure Slave, Corin Has Only Known The Kindness Of His Sisters, But His Life Changed When He Was Sold To Markus A Man Known For His RuthlessnessIn The Depths Of His Despair Over The Loss Of His Sisters, However, He Discovered Mercy In The Least Likely Of Places, The Heart Of His New Master Together They Learn To Need That Which Has Always Been Denied Them By The Harsh Hand Of Fate, But Their Cravings For Love May Not Withstand The Impending War How Far Will They Go To Hold Onto Their Morals, And Each Other CONTENT ADVISORY This Title Contains Extreme BDSM And Scenes Of Dubious Consent It Also Includes Scenes Of Rape And Intense Violence I spent the majority of this book feeling incredibly depressed for Corin It just seemed that he existed for the world to abuse Poor bastard I loved his spirt though and how no matter what was thrown at him he still retained that spark that kept him fighting I really enjoyed the fierce love and loyalty he had for his sisters throughout this story The chemistry between him and Marcus was very good Marcus was definitely of darkhorse here but the last chapter really highlighted his motivations which worked for me This was a hard one for me to read mostly because I just felt so horrible for Corin for most of it Ended well though and I m a sucker for a happy ending Interesting dystopian world with well developed characters and storyline Go into this expecting lots of hurt comfort hurt and noncon sex with a smattering of BDSM. Shattered Heart by Nikki McCoy4 StarsReviewed for www.heartsonfirereviews.comLet me start by saying that this book is not for the faint of heart It is a gripping story that was very difficult to read at times. In this dystopian world where slavery is common, Corin has had the worst life imaginable His mother was raped and he was the result After trying unsuccessfully to end the pregnancy, his mother wanted to kill him at birth but her husband, Scott, convinced her to keep the baby so that they will have their own slave They ran their own motel and having a slave, one that they couldn t afford to buy, would be a great asset to them To say that his mother hates him is a great understatement Corin s only source of happiness and love are his two younger sisters He endures years of abuse because to run away would leave the girls vulnerable to their father He can put up with anything as long as they are safe. The book opens with a twenty year old Corin barely able to stay awake as he is trying to do the chores at the hotel He has had little sleep for the past four days because Scott has been in a particularly foul mood after gambling away their money again He rents Corin out for the night to a group of men Corin is used to being used as a pleasure slave by not only his step father but anyone else he and his mother can wring money from Having to service two men a time is not uncommon for Corin but this time his step father has rented him to a group of five nasty men for the night They rape him and abuse him so terribly that Corin can barely move from the internal and external trauma He is still expected to get up and do his chores around the hotel though He staggers to the front of hotel to see Scott groveling to Markus, the fierce leader of the territory He doesn t have all of the money to pay what is owed so his mother gives him to Markus as payment Markus allows Corin one minute to say goodbye to his sisters and this scene tore my heart out of my chest and brought tears to my eyes The pain and desolation Corin felt was palpable and broke my heart.Markus is the ruthless leader of his territory who appears expressionless and devoid of human emotion He is a great bear of a man who is a vicious fighter and an excellent leader He has suffered great loss and will let no one into his heart That he takes Corin as his personal pleasure slave is a great shock to many Markus has never done this before for fear of having any weakness that others could exploit He has been at odds with the leader of the neighboring territory for some time and they are on the verge of war He has plans to eventually free slaves and his nemesis will do anything to prevent that from happening.Markus has had his eye on the beautiful Corin for quite a while and only the fear of having a weakness has kept him from acquiring the young man but he is not going to pass up this opportunity He takes Corin to his military compound and provides the best medical care possible for him As Corin heals, Markus begins training his new pleasure slave Corin has some difficulty acclimating to his new role in life Yes, he has always been a slave but having the daily contact and love from his sister s made it bearable and gave him the illusion of some freedom His new Master confounds him He expects the worst and is baffled by the kindness that Markus shows him He tests his boundaries and his Master is quick to enforce his rules and punish Corin when needed He is strict yet he is never cruel and Corin comes to crave his touch In an unbelievable act of generosity and kindness, Master gives him what he has always wanted, a family.Time passes and the tension between territories escalates Corin does get caught in the cross fire and it is when his Master offers him his freedom that he realizes that there is no place that he s felt safer or would want to be Even though the words aren t really spoken, the feelings that each man had for each other was very apparent in their actions. This was an extremely emotional book for me Ms McCoy managed to convey the utter despair and hopelessness that Corin felt and made me hurt right along with him The story flows fairly well but did drag for me about three fourths of the way in The ending was very hopeful and you can see the HEA on the horizon but I think that I would have had a little closure with an epilogue.Like I said, this book is not for the faint of heart and I don t recommend this book to everyone, it is extremely harsh and will not appeal to the average reader but, if you like your stories raw and gritty as I do, I highly recommend this book. 4.5 Stars It s a good little novel about real slavery in a dystopia I would not say that I was very moved by Corin s fate though This is probably because it seemed to me that his fate with his family at the beginning of the story was much worse than the one with Markus. The author wrote at the end of the synopsis This title contains extreme BDSM and scenes of dubious consent.I don t agree for the extreme And, except at the end, this is slavery, purely and simply, not BDSM There was real brutality, but not by Markus, even before Corin accepted his fate.It s an author I didn t know, but I find her a good writer So I give this book 3 stars rounded up to 4. I had some issues but happily the slave story was the best part, and that I really liked The work up detailing poor Corin s miserable life was pretty over the top I liked the whole post apocalyptic set up, but I would have preferred details on how the society had been restructured and slavery reintroduced, and less of the cartoonishly evil parents However, once Markus enters the story, things got a lot satisfying in ways than one I found the dynamic between master and slave here was great the punishments were erotically charged and kinky, but they were also reasonable and focused, without any of the first part s gratuitous brutality As a master Markus was just about my ideal, loyal and fair but never relaxing his authority for a second Unlike most slave stories I ve read, the moments of sentimentality do not end up totally overshadowing the discipline And a big hurray for that Much as I liked the story, I found the writing itself rough the syntax was often convoluted and not always under the author s control, and the diction was needlessly elevated eg trepidatious instead of afraid I found myself yearning for one of those dominatrix editors who could impose a little discipline at the sentence level, especially since the rest worked so well Bottom line rough writing aside, the author knows how to tell an intense, imaginative, and hot slave story that avoids most of the pitfalls of the genre to create a satisfying dynamic between the two leads. I love when a book sucks me in and has me reading it in nearly one sitting regardless of its length Poor Corin has had it rough since the womb when his mother tried to purposely miscarry him Rather than sell him into slavery, the stepfather decides he that, while not officially a slave as many others in this world, they can use him as one to help them run their motel Corin does so to protect his two sisters from harm He is made to do all sort of chores and endure punishments and beatings, not to mention having to service men most of which are quite brutal to make up for the money the evil stepfather squanders. This all changes when he is given to Markus, the leader of the territory, in exchange for clearing the stepfather s debt Markus is a strong character, and while a very strict and tough master, he is also quite fair and approaches things quite differently than most Rather than use ruthless beatings, he forces Corin to endure such things as climax deprivation On the flip side, he is the first one to actually pleasure Corin or show him that sex doesn t always have to be riddled with pain. This is not the end of horrible treatment for Corin unfortunately Markus is attempting to negotiate with other leaders to join forces, which doesn t always go very well Word gets out that Markus highly covets Corin, and he is thus used as a pawn in very painful ways for Corin.Markus and Corin are wonderful together Corin remains strong even when beaten down He never gives up his promise to try and help save his sisters, and Markus comes through with flying colors making that happen Also part of their odd little family is Heather, another of Markus slaves who is chosen to take care of the sisters. This story reads very fast It is very well written and flows smoothly It pulls you into its world, and at the end, you don t want to leave because things are just seeming to get better for the people who live there I really liked these characters, how their relationship adjusted with the circumstances, and how they each remained steady and essentially the same person even when the changes adjustments were made.I wouldn t mind seeing another story with these characters, but will definitely be looking into other work by this author. 4.5 Corin has been abused physically, mentally and sexually for most of his life The scenes at the beginning of the book, view spoiler where he s gang raped, hide spoiler

I have always been a lover of books, particularly those with the dichotomy of the strong alpha male and the weaker love of their life which they must rescue After reading all I could find in M F books, I decided to give M M fiction a try and my addiction skyrocketed.Hot, sexy men times two No contest Unfortunately, I was reading faster than the authors could produce Eventually, I resorted to i
